On Friday, September 30th, we held a Thank You party for the 2016 Irish Fair volunteers at the Celtic Junction Arts Center. We gave out our annual volunteer awards to the following outstanding volunteers:
Turf Cutter–Volunteer of the Year–Dennis Daly. Dennis has volunteered at Irish Fair for over 15 years. This year, Dennis was Co-Area Manager of the Beverage Team, attending planning meetings throughout the year, and working at the fair from set up on Wednesday all the way through the last gasp of tear down on Monday afternoon. Dennis was truly a hero of the 2016 Fair and we thank him for all his hard work and dedication. He was chosen as volunteer of the year by unanimous vote!
Cú Chulainn–Weekend Warrior–Ed Wunsch. Ed is the official Irish Fair Traffic Ambassador. He attends planning meetings, coordinates with the bus company, shuttle drivers, and nearby parking lots, recruits a team of volunteers, manages street signage and so much more! He does this essential behind-the-scenes work from before the Fair begins until every one of us departs each night. Ed is an unsung hero of Irish Fair and because he is working so hard outside the gates, he doesn't even get to enjoy any of the great entertainment at the Fair!
Rookie of the Year–Peter Jacobs. In his first year of volunteering at Irish Fair, Peter helped keep all the beer tents constantly stocked. In an exhausting and physically demanding job, Peter was running from the moment he arrived on Friday up until lateon Sunday. Despite the long hard work, he lent a hand wherever it was asked for with a smile. Many thanks to Peter, and we hope to welcome him back again next year.
