Cultural Activities

Cultural ActivitiesVolunteers work year-round to create a Cultural Area that showcases both Irish heritage and current cultural developments and provides interesting ways for you to learn a little more about all things Irish.

Throughout the festival grounds, workshops and seminars abound! Check the schedules in the Eoin McKiernan Seminar Tent, the Sean T. Kelly Lore ‘n’ More Tent and the Workshop tent for opportunities to learn more about musical instruments, history, legends, movies, literature and more. We are expanding festival theater performances in the Centennial Showboat, where on Sunday, you can choose from five different theater performances.

Inside the Harriet Island pavilion, you'll find crafters, the Irish Fair Photo Contest entries, a replica poitín still and Tussie’s Tea & Sweets tea room. Outside the pavilion, more than a dozen community organizations gather. You can trace your genealogy, enter a soda bread contest, learn a word or two in Irish or get information on many of the active Irish non-profits in Minnesota.

Irish Social Dancing

Our special guest teacher this year is Gerard Butler, from Co Roscommon, Ireland.  Gerard began set dancing at the age of fifteen and began teaching shortly thereafter.  He has conducted workshops in Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Budapest and throughout Ireland.  Ger was a member of the Elphin Set Dancers, winners of 9 all Ireland titles, and has toured Asia and Europe as a Sean Nos dancer and percussionist with Dublin's Rhythm of the Dance.  A brilliant dancer and engaging teacher, Ger brings great enthusiasm to his workshops.  Don't miss it!
